or Avocado Chocolate Pudding.

This recipe is from the choosing raw website.

To give this pudding some extra zing, you can add a couple of chili peppers!

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado, pitted
  • 6-10 dates (depending on size of dates and desired sweetness – I’m usually happy with 8 medjool dates), soaked if necessary
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 4 heaping Tbsp cocoa or 2 Tbsp. carob powder
  • ½ cup water

Place all ingredients in a food processor (you can use a blender or Vita, but food processors work much better for this recipe) and begin blending.

Drizzle water in, stopping to scrape sides of bowl if need be, until the mixture resembles a thick, chocolate pudding. Let it continue mixing until smooth and creamy.

If you are on a low-sugar or anti-candida diet, I recommend using stevia to taste in place of dates or agave.

  1. There was a raw food restaurant in Nelson for awhile, in that odd triangle shaped building down Ward Street. They sold a cocoa/avocado pie that was one of the most decadent things I’ve had.

The owner, whose name escapes me, told me she would have no problem serving it to her kids for breakfast because it was so healthy.

  2. Hi, Chris.

Yes, I remember that place. It was called “Rawfreshing” and the owner was a lovely woman named Chantal. I really enjoyed her cocoa/avocado pie too, and many of her other foods. I was a regular there. She opened her shop on July 1st, 2007, which was just two days after I moved to Nelson. I miss her and Rawfreshing. They were a wonderful addition to Nelson.

  3. MMM This sounds Delicious, Did you create this recipe? or do you know who did?

  4. Hi, Ryan.
It’s from the “Choosing Raw” website: http://www.choosingraw.com/. Welcome to the inthekoots network! I’ll be really interested in following what you do as a backyard baker, and hope we can aggregate some of our posts. Happy blogging, happy baking, and Happy New Year!
    All the best,
    Diana

  5. Hey, Diana.

I will check the site out, I am not a raw food vegan my self but would love to experiment with doing some raw food desserts in a book I am working on. I would love to aggregate some of our posts, I dont know if you have any other blogs or websites but if you do you should send me a link and I will put it on my site http://www.kootenaysbackyardbakers.com

    Thanx for the warm welcome,

    Ryan Doggart

  6. Hey, Ryan. I love your website, especially the section about the culinary cookbook.

This is probably the most appropriate blog to link to, but I do have another called “Redefining Beauty” http://redefiningbeauty.inthekoots.com/, which has been described as ‘on the edge of out there’ — I hope you’ll check it out and see if it’s something you’d like to link to.

If you have any recipes you’re particularly proud of, I’d love to feature them and your business on Food in the Koots. I’d also love to do a write up on your cookbook. Have you published it yet?
