Eating Seasonally
I’ve always been a fan of eating seasonally, so thought I’d see what I could find about this on the internet.
According to the GAIAMlife site, seasonal eating is inexpensive, flavourful, provides variety, is nutritious and is easy on the environment, especially if you also eat food that is organically and locally grown. According to this site:
You’ll be rewarded with high quality produce, packed with nutrition, at a lower cost. And your taste buds will definitely thank you for it!
And Grist Magazine points out that by eating locally you’ll also have more money for beer, and will make meaningful connections in your community.
I’ve heard that our bodies require the specific nutrients provided by the foods that grow locally each season: In the warmth of summer fruits refresh, and in the fall we need the more substantial root vegetables. This makes sense to me.
I’ll be sharing recipes that use seasonal foods in further posts.
Do you have any recipes using seasonally available foods that you’d like to share? If so, I hope you’ll let us know.
