Toasting grains
I just wanted to share this tip that makes grains so much more flavourful. Simply, toast them before cooking. This bring out their flavour, and I do this with rice, barley, quinoa, even lentils. It makes them taste slightly nutty.
While I’m boiling water to add to the grains, I put the grains in the pot I’ll be cooking them in, and put the burner on at about medium heat, and stir constantly until they’re slightly browned. I then add the required amount of water.
A simple trick, but I find it really worthwhile.
